Abstract

The rapid expansion of the usage of lithium-ion battery technology in electric vehicles and energy storage systems has raised the need to ensure the highest level of traceability and transparency in the battery assembly process. The purpose of the proposed research is to design and implement a digital traceability system that can track the entire assembly process of the battery from the registration of the individual cells to the dispatch of the final battery product. The proposed digital solution is based on integrating real-time tracking, inventory management, quality control, and packing verification through a single software platform. The proposed solution will be able to track the entire assembly process of the battery through the assignment of unique identification to the individual cells and the final battery assembly, which will enable the genealogy tracking of the battery assembly process. The proposed digital solution has been experimentally implemented in the assembly process, and the results show the benefits that can be achieved through digital manufacturing solutions in the assembly process of the lithium-ion battery.
